Obituary of Thomas Braun
Chuck passed away on April 2, 2018 in Lansing, MI. He was born on August 27, 1930 to John Conrad Braun, III and Myrtle Cecelia (Sutphen) in Sunfield Twp., MI.
He is survived by 3 sons, Tom (Karen) Braun, Mike (Laurie) Braun, and Tim Braun; 8 grandchildren, Amy (Andy) Miller, Missy (Sean) Mullaly, Cathy (Andy) Villaire, Christian Braun, Dave (Kate) Braun, Lisa (Ilija) Dilber, Joshua BarberBraun, and Michael BarberBraun; 7 great-grandchildren, Zach, Nathan, Paul, Abbi, Michael, Chloe, and Luka; 2 sisters, Johanne (Gayle) Jenks, and Sherry (George) Sponseller; 2 brothers, Merle (Sally) Braun, and Melvin Eschker; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joyce A. Braun in 2015; parents; and brother, John Conrad, IV.
Chuck received his machine repair Journeyman's card in the 1950s with General Motors. Later he accepted a position at Kaiser Aluminum then at Libby's that resulted in moving to Indiana, Illinois, Ontario, Canada, and returned back to General Motors in Lansing where he retired.
Chuck was known as "Ask Ole Charlie" by many for his selfless donation of his time and skills to resolve problems for others, never taking compensation. He was skilled in many fields. He flourished with woodworking, and along with his mechanical knowledge he could surpass most peoples' abilities. He enjoyed bowling and earned a Singles Handicap Series title (797) during the 1997 Lansing USBC City Tournament. He was also known for his delicious homemade caramel corn and peanut brittle. God only knows how may pounds he sold over the years with the profits going to the Men's Club at St. Therese. He was also deeply involved with the St .Vincent DePaul Food Bank at St. Therese.
Funeral Mass is 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 102 W. Randolph, Lansing with Fr. John Fain officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 AM at the church prior to mass. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Monday at Tiffany Funeral Home. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to the St. Therese Church - St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
