Obituary of Gary Every

Gary Curtis Every, beloved brother, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend, passed away on July 28, 2018  at the age of 67.   He was born August 15, 1950 to the late Eva Every and Joseph Smith in Maple Rapids, MI.  He was the youngest of 5 children.  He lived his life enjoying every moment, often documenting those moments with a camera in his hands.  With his kind and boisterous personality, Gary was loved by all.  He was truly a friend to be cherished, and in turn cherished those friends he made along the way

He attended St. Johns Rodney B. Wilson High School, and upon graduation in 1969 enlisted in the United States Army, spending most of his service in Germany.  After completing his term in the Army, Gary was employed by General Motors where he worked until his retirement in 2003.  During retirement, Gary stayed active with the Retired Local 652 Labor Union as their election committee chairman.

Gary spent his youth in the boxing ring as a member of the Golden Gloves Organization and won the Lansing District Golden Gloves Championship in 1974.  In his later years, Gary continued to support local athletic organizations, often volunteering his time for the Mid-Michigan High School Softball Classic and the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Gary’s tough exterior sheltered a soul that knew gratitude and love. He had two passions in life: breeding and raising his German Shepard dogs, and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle with his many long-time riding companions. He was grateful for every day, every ride, and every dog he raised!  On any given day, you could find Gary woodworking in his shop or deploying his handyman skills to help out a friend. Gary made sure those around him knew how special they were to him—he never missed a birthday or an invitation to visit with a friend.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Eva Every and Joseph Smith.  He leaves behind 3 brothers, Dennis (Susan) Every of Muskegon, Ron (Nikki) Every of New York, and Bob (Sue) Every of Lansing; his sister, Rosemary (Charlie) Magsig of St. Johns; his son, Wayne Every of New York;  2 granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.  Memorial Service is 11 AM Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing, with visitation 10-11 AM prior to the service.  Friends may visit the guest book at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com.
