Obituary of Tom Powers

Tom Powers

Lansing

Age 75, our loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away August 9, 2018.  Born April 10, 1943 in North Tonawanda, NY, the son of Drusilla Matthews and Versel Powers.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Karen C. Powers; daughter, Kristen Powers; sister, Becky (Guy) Horton; 2 nieces, Ashleigh (Matt) Gilbert, and Audra Montoya; nephew, Joshua (Stacy) Rice, Aunt Elaine Bruce, and many beloved cousins. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Drusilla & Bill Matthews, grandparents Art & Anna Peterson, and Versel Powers.

Tom was an unassuming, decent man who loved God, his wife and daughter, and America. He was quick with a joke, always trying to make you laugh. He enjoyed spending time looking out over the pond at his cottage up north. He spent every moment possible there riding his tractors, wood cutting, visiting with his neighbors Ray and Yvonne, and deer hunting with a group of friends who gathered for years. He was an avid reader, and always kept a book within reach.

Tom was also a successful businessman, owning and operating Tom’s Furniture and Antiques on Grand River Ave in Old Town. His personality, honesty, and integrity helped him serve many loyal customers and friends for over 35 years. He used his business, not only as a livelihood, but as a way to lend a helping hand to those in need.

He will always be remembered as a fun-loving person and loyal friend to many. His wit, sense of humor, and zest for life will be forever missed by family and friends. The memories of his infectious laugh will long bring smiles to the faces of all who were lucky enough to know him.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. Sunday with a Celebration of Tom’s Life at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 12, 2018 in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing.   Friends may visit the guest book at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com
