Walter E. Brown
Lansing – Walter Earl Brown, 70, passed away on September 4, 2018. Walter was born in Drummonds, Tennessee on September 29, 1947. Walter was a kind, compassionate, and dedicated individual. He was a member of the Rotarian for 11 years, and held numerous positions including President (twice), and Asst. District Governor. He was an active participant and organizer of the Lansing Schools mentoring and Pack a Backpack program, and Meal Service at the Volunteers of America. Walter was always the first to volunteer and participate in any new initiative. He was unanimously voted as the Rotary Club Hero for 2016.
Walter received many awards for his humanitarian efforts, among them the 2003 Bea Christy Award for his outstanding contribution to the Knollwood neighborhood from the Lansing City Council, Paul Harris Fellow award from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, Certificate of Recognition for participation with the Mayor’s Drug Free Youth Task Force from Mayor Tony Benavides, recognition for Outstanding Service Above Self Award from District 6360 Rotary Hero 2016, appreciation for his involvement to improve the quality of life in the Knollwood community from the Lansing Police Department, the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation signed by President George Bush.
He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Chester Brown, mother Velma Lee Russell, and siblings in order of age: Olivia B. Fields, Jerry Brown, Tommy Brown, Douglas MacArthur Brown, Susie B. Ford, Bennie Charles Sr. Brown, George Robert Brown, Hattie Brown-Malone, Ernest Brown, Justin Brown, Georgia Marie Brown, Burnius Brown, John Brown, and Hubert Brown.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory 2 daughters, Velma L. Harris, and Latrenda S. Gonzalez; 6 grandchildren: Trent Reynolds, Andrew Johnson Jr., Mrs. Brittany Tinker, grandson-in-law LaMarcus Tinker, Tiffany Harris, Jasmine Gonzalez, and James Harris II; 3 great-grandchildren: Andrew Johnson III, Aaron Johnson, and Madison Velma Tinker and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation is Monday, September 10, 2018 from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm with services on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw Hwy, Lansing. Friends may visit the guest book at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com.
