Age 79, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was called home to her Lord on October 2, 2018. Born June 4, 1939 in Vandalia, Michigan. She graduated from St. Thomas the Apostle High School June 7, 1957. In the 1960’s and 70’s she was a trailblazer as an African American women who taught Key Punch at Lansing Community College and Kelly Services. Gloria retired from Lansing General Hospital as a - computer operator/programmer after many years of service.
She loved bowling, bingo, crochet, and other crafts. She was well know for these, as well as her cake design, silk flowers and her homemade rolls! She was a long time member and a church Mother of the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 49 years, Joe L. Lane, I; 2 Birth Children, Claudette Bass, and Joe L. (Sharri) Lane, II; 4 Grandchildren, Camryn (Ciera), Trenton, Paris, and Imani.
2 Daughters through marriage, Thelma (Curtis) Younger and Barbara Ann Martin, 6 grandchildren, Arthur, Brandy (John), Cornelius, James, Mia, Shy’tez.
A Special “Daughter”, Lamia Embry, and 3 Special grandchildren, Corey (Danielle), LaMicia, TaJuana (Matt) and a host of great-grandchildren.
3 sisters, Mary Bradley, Goldie King, and Adeline Walker; sister in-law, Margaret Haines; brother, Harland Haines; 4 sisters-in law, Nora B. Love, Jesse Hudson, Rosie Bates, and Lenora Lane; 1 brother-in-law, Willie Lane and a host of nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents Guylor G. Haines and Ruth E. (Lane) Haines; sister, Alma; 3 brothers, Eugene, Johnny, and Guylor, sister in-law, Mamie Lane, and her grandson, Lamar.
Family hour will be from 10:30 – 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at church with Home-going Services beginning at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 3800 Miller Road, Lansing, MI with Pastor Lonnie Chipp and Pastor Joe L. Lane, II as eulogist for his mother. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
