Gerald F. "Jerry" Cleeves

Lansing, Michigan

 

Gerald Frederick Cleeves entered his heavenly home to meet his Lord and Savior on November 19, 2018 at the age of 85.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth; daughters Debra (David) Stobert and Diana (Norman) Stobert; sons, Mark Cleeves and Matthew Cleeves; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Stobert, Kari Stobert, Alex (Samantha) Stobert, Jaynie Cleeves, Joshua Cleeves; a brother Paul (Diane) Cleeves and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 10, 1933 to William and Lyda Cleeves. After graduation, he worked at Consumers Power Company as an auto mechanic.  Soon after, he enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War.  He was transferred to an Air Force base outside Rockville, Indiana, in 1955 which changed his life.... He and a certain young 16 year-old lady became acquainted which permanently changed both of their lives. They were married, June 10, 1956.  After his discharge in 1957, they returned to Lansing, Michigan to his waiting Consumers Power position.  Later, he built a home in Dimondale, Michigan and then was transferred to Rives Junction, Michigan.  Gerald retired after 38 years as a Superintendent at Consumers Power Company.  Recently,  he moved back to Lansing, Michigan to be closer to family due to health problems, and once again began attending South Church.

Gerald enjoyed many interests:  wood working, sailing, hunting, and target shooting with friends and family. Gerald actively served his Lord and Savior in every church he attended.  His areas of ministry included: Deacon, teacher, choir, praise team, children's ministries, missionary trip to Peru and others.

Visitation is 2-4 PM Sunday, November 25, 2018 atTiffany Funeral Home, 3232 West Saginaw, Lansing, MI  48917.  Funeral Service is 11:00 AM Monday, November 26, 2018 at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Drive, Lansing, MI  48917 with viewing one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.  Interment will be in Delta Center Cemtery.  Military Honors will be provided by the Morley S. Oates V.F.W. Post #701.
