Cecil Hampton, Jr.

Obituary of Cecil Hampton, Jr.

Cecil Hampton Jr. was born February 6, 1944 in the State of Missouri, County of Mississippi to the late Helen A Pully, and Cecil Hampton Sr. After the death of his dad, he was raised by his stepdad Earl Pully. Cecil was preceded in death by his mother, father, daughter Cecilia, two sons, Paul and Edward.

Cecil graduated from O’Fallon Technical High School in St Louis Missouri. He played on the varsity football team and was a star basketball player. He earned the trade of a welder, and later worked as a security guard.

He later joined the Riverview Blvd Baptist Church in St Louis Missouri, where his high school friend, Jimmie Matthews was pastor. Pastor Matthews says Cecil routinely shared clichés with him such as “If you not growing you are not going” and “I’m ready, even if I don’t get to go”. He truly lived the state motto, the show me state because he exemplified his position

as a deacon at Riverview and then later at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Deacon Hampton was a member of the Ministerial Alliance, Male Chorus, Security for Awana, Vacation Bible School, and other church activities.

Cecil was a dedicated deacon and mostly importantly knew his word from his loyal attendance at Sunday school and bible class. He always found ease in finishing up Pastor Chipp’s sentences when he was preaching, and Dr. and Sister June’s statements when teaching.

He found and married his sweet heart LaVonzella June 16, 1969 and again June 19, 2011. He embraced the word that says he who finds a wife findeth a good thing. Together they spent time traveling, being a part of the marriage ministry and participating in numerous church activities. He found his second love being a volunteer Grand Parent for the RSVP Program for People’s Choice, and they showed their love to him in a newspaper write up, awards, birthday cakes and many tokens of love. Everyone that knew Cecil knew he loved his wife and his volunteer role as much as he loved his chocolate. He was victorious in many ways because he was a survivor of

cancer, and the loss of his daughter Cecilia. Above all life struggles he was an Anointed Angel of God.

He always had a smile and would help others regardless of the health issues he had. He would say God’s Grace is sufficient. He understood the battlefield and that the depth of his struggles would determine the height of his success.

On Friday June 21, 2019, at the age of 75, Cecil was awarded his heavenly wings and God called his faithful servant home. He will be missed at the Hampton’s September family reunion. Like branches on a tree we all grow in different directions, but our roots keep up us all together.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife LaVonzella Hampton of Lansing MI, one son, Bryan (Alma) of Memphis TN, brother in Christ, Deacon Joe Lane, six grandchildren, and a host of friends.
