Obituary of Thomas Michael Byrne

Thomas Michael Byrne

Lansing, Michigan

Age 28, our loving dad, son, and brother passed away on August 24, 2019.   Born October 16, 1990 in Lansing, Michigan.

From an early age, Tommy was like sunshine when he entered people’s lives.  His infectious silly ways and beautiful smile caused many to love him.  He hated people being sad and would do whatever he could to cheer them up.  As a child, Tom was full of energy, always caring for others.  He enjoyed sharing his things, whether it was toys, games or food; he always wanted others to enjoy something as much as he did.  He was a prankster, especially on April Fool’s Day.  Some of his favorites were switching salt and sugar containers and putting Shrink Wrap over the toilet bowl.  We all knew never to talk to him about movies we hadn't seen; he would give you the ending right away because he was so excited to share what he saw.  He also loved to come up with convincing stories to end up saying, “Just kidding!” when he got the response he was hoping for.  We all still loved him for it even though it drove us crazy.  He was always trying to be helpful and kind to others.  He would help out around the neighborhood; mowing lawns and doing yard work.  He loved Pokémon and music.  He would always join in family singalongs.  He loved being outdoors and studying martial arts of all kinds.

As an adult Tom, started college achieving a 4.0 grade point average, but he found a path that he liked better at Franchino Mold and Engineering, repairing, rebuilding and building molds for plastic injection molding.  He met his partner and long-time girlfriend, Samantha Thomas.  Together they had a son Vincent, a happy baby boy.  Tom was a doting father and an attentive partner.  He loved sharing his favorite childhood moments with Vince, trips to the zoo, dressing up for Halloween and celebrating Christmas.  Vince was his pride and joy.

Tommy was a big believer in traditions.  One of his favorite times of year was autumn.  He loved the yearly trip to Uncle John’s Cider Mill.  So when you’re drinking your cider and eating your doughnuts this fall, remember him in the good times you shared with him.  We think he’d like it if everyone reading this thought of something kind they can do for someone to cheer them up and then do it in his memory.

Surviving are his son, Vincent Michael Byrne; his parents, JoEllen and Gary Byrne; brother, Alexander Byrne; sister, Tori Byrne; grandparents, Ray and Kay Wright; his nana, Marguerite Byrne; his girlfriend, Samantha Thomas; and many other family members and friends.

Tommy had a big heart and wanted to take away the pain of others.  He hated to see people unhappy.  He tried to cope with his own unhappiness in a way that he thought was working, but it led to an addiction that ultimately attacked his heart, ended up taking his life, and devastated the people that truly loved him.  It is a much emptier world without him.
