Christopher Scott Strayer
Our beloved Huntington’s Disease warrior gained his wings on August 25, 2020 after a long-fought battle. He was born and raised in Lansing, MI to Roger and Dianne Strayer on September 16, 1967. He graduated from Everett High in 1985 where he was a proud member of both the marching and jazz bands. On February 24, 1990 he married his high school sweetheart Michelle Lynn Peavey and began their active duty military journey to Georgia, Germany, and Arizona. While stationed in Germany in 1992 Justin was born at the Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. They returned to Lansing, MI following the end of his active duty contract and in 1999 welcomed their second child Lindsey. Chris went on to dedicate his life to serving others in any capacity he was able. He served in the Active Duty Army for 7 and ½ years and served in Operation Desert Storm. He also served with the Michigan National Guard for 7 and ½ years. He was also able to live out his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter/paramedic and served with the Delhi Township Fire Department as well as Lansing Mason Ambulance and a number of other agencies for 7 years. He loved bowling, fishing, golfing, reading, computer gaming, and his favorite team- the Chicago Bears. His 2 beautiful children were the highlight of his life. He was an assistant Den leader while Justin was in Cub Scouts and he always enjoyed attending any sports activities the children were in. Any amount of time he could spend with his children he held very dear to his heart. He is survived by his children Justin Christopher and Lindsey Michelle, Sister- Cathy (Matt) LaClear, Step-brother- Matt (Kathy) Forshee, Step-sister- Lorie (Norm) Freelan, Mother-in-law-Linda Peavey, Sister-in-law-Melissa Peavey, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A very special Aunt who was there for him throughout his journey until the end Diane (Strayer)Kimball. As well as his forever friends Larry Durrance, Matt Ramon, Jennifer (Tharp) Wilson & Tom Rondon. He is preceded in death by Roger Strayer (Father), Dianne (Mercy) Strayer (Mother), Charmaine Strayer (Step-Mother) Charles & Lena Strayer and Ralph & Inez Mercy (Grandparents), Gary Strayer, John Mercy, & Lee Gardner (Uncles), and Judy Gardner & Carol Meine (Aunts).
There will be a military burial service at Ft. Custer in Augusta, MI on September 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
Due to covid-19 we will plan a celebration of his life at a later date.
