Obituary of Addie Winston
Sister Addie Winston, 76, went to her Lord on May 19, 2018. She was born March 14, 1942 in Birmingham Alabama, the daughter of Mr. Walter Sanders and Addie Beatrice Ames Sanders. As one of seven siblings, she was educated in the Birmingham public school system, received her B.S. from Alabama A&M Huntsville, and her Master’s in Education from Michigan State University.
Addie moved to Lansing, Michigan with her husband Edward and her children where she worked as a teacher at Gardner Middle School, Sexton High School, and Everett High School. Upon her retirement from teaching and with the passing of her beloved husband, she devoted herself to the Church and served as the Sunday School secretary for New Mount Calvary Baptist Church as well as instructing the vacation bible school.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; sisters, Laura and Sara; brothers, Dewitt, John, Walter Jr., and Tyrone; and sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn (Robert) Jones, Willie and Juanita Williams, and Marjorie Winston.
She is survived by her two sons, Edward DeMond (Jenni) Winston and Eric (Michele) Winston; four grandchildren – the loves of her life, - Devin, Kaitlin, Aaron, and Tyler; her brother, Bishop Rufus (Flora) Sanders; a host of nieces and nephews (whom she loved unconditionally); special sister-in-law, Mozella Sanders; and the students she taught who always had a special place in her heart for their success.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday, May 25th 2018 at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 3800 W. Miller Rd., Lansing under Pastor Lonnie Chipp. The family will receive friends 10:30 – 11 AM at the church prior to service.
